Art for All: Bringing Creativity to Our Community!
At The Arts Society Malling, we believe art isn't just for galleries – it's for everyone, everywhere! One of our core passions is to champion the arts, and while we've always nurtured young talent, we've recently expanded our horizons. We now embrace any group that can benefit from the incredible, lifelong joy and understanding that all forms of art bring to our lives. It's about strengthening our local ties and creating a real, tangible presence right here in our community!
Each year, we're proud to award a special grant to a project that truly embodies this spirit. And oh, what wonderful projects they've been!
Making a Splash at Spadework!
We had the immense pleasure of supporting fantastic initiatives at Spadework, a local charity dedicated to adults with learning disabilities. Our previous grants have helped fund the creation of vibrant murals, transforming spaces and bringing splashes of colour and creativity to their environment. It was truly inspiring to see the power of art in action!
Most recently we're supporting their Dementia Programme. For the 2025/2026 season, our society successfully applied for the National Art Society Community Grant. This £250 grant is awarded annually to local societies to fund community-based projects that promote the arts.
This year, the grant will be used to purchase high-quality art supplies for Spadework’s Art and Music workshops.
These workshops are a vital lifeline, helping participants:
- Feel less isolated through social creativity.
- Boost mental wellbeing and find joy in self-expression.
- Live more fulfilling lives by engaging in meaningful, sensory activities.

Unleashing Creativity at East Malling Community Centre!
Previously, our grant landed with The East Malling Community Centre – a truly unique and vital community hub. After a heartfelt discussion with their Community Development Worker, we realised an art workshop could do so much more than just entertain the children; it could also offer wonderful support and engagement for their parents and carers.
So, we put our heads together and suggested a few of our favourite artists. The brilliant Harry Venning, a well-known Arts Society lecturer, was a perfect fit! He led an unforgettable Easter cartoon workshop, aptly named “Release your Inner Cartoonist.” Imagine: two engaging 45-minute sessions, complete with a packed lunch, and a workbook and art materials for every child to take home! Parents and carers were wholeheartedly welcomed to join in the fun too.
And did Harry deliver! On the day, he not only helped the children craft their own fantastic cartoons but, more importantly, he nurtured each child's unique creativity, reinforcing the powerful message: Art is for everyone! The energy was infectious, and the enthusiasm from both children and adults was absolutely amazing. The feedback? Overwhelmingly positive!
A massive well done to Harry Venning for his incredible talent and spirit, and a huge thank you to The East Malling Community Centre for their invaluable work in our community. Together, we're proving that art truly does enrich lives!
